#CookForSyria

By Events, News No Comments

The conflict in Syria is a dark chapter in the story of the world, one which we hope concludes swiftly. It’s natural to feel helpless, but there is a way to do something.

Cook For Syria is an international initiative which aims to raise funds for UNICEF’s Syrian Crisis Relief through a series of dinners. It launched in London in October 2016, ran in Sydney on Feb 27 and will run in the USA in June.

The Melbourne incarnation, organised by Good Food’s Gemima Cody, will be held at The Point on March 6.

The chef line up is incredibly impressive, with Andy Harmer (The Point), Thi Le (Anchovy), David Moyle (Franklin and Longsong), David Thompson (Long Chim), Karen Martini (Mr Wolf), Shane Delia (Maha), Shaun Quade (Lûmé), Frank Camorra (MoVida), Victor Liong (Lee Ho Fook), Jacques Reymond and Dave Verheul (Embla, Town Mouse) all on board. Each chef will create a Syrian-inspired dish for the night.

I couldn’t help but put my hand up to curate the wine side of things, so in conjunction with (a very pregnant) Meira Hall (due any day now!) from The Town Mouse, we got to work.

The response from the wine community was swift and heartwarming. Aside from donating wine for the dinner itself, many winemakers also opened their cellars, offering up rare back vintage wines, magnums, double magnums and more so more funds can also be raised via raffles and auctions on the night. PLUMM are also donating glassware and decanters to the cause.

Tickets are [still available] for this incredible cause. The cost is $329 (inc. booking fee) with 75% of the ticket price going direct to UNICEF.

REFLECTING ON ROOTSTOCK SYDNEY

By Events, News No Comments

Someone asked me today what is so special about Rootstock Sydney. It’s a hard question to answer because the magic of Rootstock hides in amongst all the things Rootstock has on offer.

In between a lineup of incredible producers and their natural wines, the insight into food and culture, the feasts and the discos – there is real magic.

Rootstock really is a festival of all things sustainable in food and drink. It’s a thoughtful showcase of food and drinks, the culture surrounding them, and a part of creating the kind of culture the Rootstock team want for the future.

One of our highlights of Rootstock is always hearing from Uncle Bruce Pascoe and Gurandgi Munjie. They’re a group of indigenous Australians working to recover traditional food plants of their culture. They have a crowd funding campaign going to fundraise to revive and commercialise some traditional grain crops – and an amazing cause. Take a look and support it here.

We were really stoked to be an event partner for Rootstock this year, and help the team bring together another amazing festival. It’s an one that always leaves us equal parts exhausted, reflective and completely inspired.

WE WON AN AWARD!

By News No Comments

What started out five years ago as one little Pinot event in Melbourne with 300 people, has grown into Bottle Shop Concepts – a company who in 2016 ran 27 events in 2 countries and 7 cities, with 16500+ attendees checking out 437 wineries, and a media reach of 32.5 million. We’re so deep in making it all happen, in a makeshift office around a kitchen table, that we often forget to sit back and take stock of what we’ve created.

But then sometimes other people step in to help with that.

The good people at WISA’s Wine Industry Impact Awards gave us a massive pat on the back, in the form of their Marketing and Communications trophy. They said we help wineries ‘cut through the noise’ and create memorable experiences to help them connect with people who drink wine.

We’re blown away, stoked and humbled. We love what we do, and it’s amazing seeing how much other people love and value it too.

Oscars acceptance speeches aside, we owe a massive thank you to you guys. You, the people who come along and taste, eat and start dancefloors. You the wineries, who make the good stuff and come on the road with us. You, the WISA. You, the merry band of misfits called BSC who make it all happen. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Now we need a real office, so that we can have a trophy cabinet to put this in.
